A guide to your summer oases
If there’s one thing that I love in the summertime, it’s a cold glass of rosé, a nibble of strong cheese, and a bit of shade with a breeze. Luckily, the Northland is rife with beautiful patio spaces where friends can gather for laughs at dusk or the lone wolf can hide out with a book in the afternoon. Here are three of our favorites, all with a European flair.
Trago Bar and Tapas
9261 NE 83rd Terrace
Tapas were practically invented for patios as those in Sevilla, Spain can attest. This scratch kitchen serves up some tasty morsels from around Latin America and Spain, indoors and out, but their patio space offers a quiet respite in a comfortable setting. With plenty of shade and comfy lounge furniture, the patio at Trago is ideal for long travel planning sessions, girl’s night out, or just a glass of sangria or a cocktail with your love.
Cafe des Amis: A French Bistro
112 1/2 Main street
Doesn’t everyone want to escape to the south of France in the summer? Or is that just me? While Cafe des Amis isn’t quite Marseille, it does offer authentic French cuisine in a beautiful setting, especially their patio. Shaded and tucked up on the second floor, just off of Main Street, the patio offers a breezy, secluded spot perfect for Sunday brunch with a bottle of bubbles and your closest friends.
4105 N Mulberry Drive
Rounding out our list is Trezo Mare. Invoking the ingredient-driven technique of Italy, Trezo Mare’s patio uses its height on the edge of Briarcliff Village to its advantage, with beautiful views and refreshing breezes. Patons can enjoy the view or relish the seclusion, tucked in among the greenery underneath the pergola. Although many think of patios for the afternoon, the evening is lovely at Trezo Mare as well. If you can score a seat around the firepit, you’ll have plenty of ambiance for those long-into-the-night conversations that become treasured memories.
