Nothing Bundt Cakes opens in Tiffany Springs

Alex Edwards knows the importance of a first impression as he recounts one of his father’s sayings: “You can only sell garbage once.”

“And that’s very true!” he says. “For us, a lot of our business is people coming back, and that’s because the experience they’ve had—with the cake and with us, too.”

Edwards is an owner and the director of operations for three locations of Nothing Bundt Cakes, including stores in Overland Park, Mission and the most recent addition in the Northland at 8930 NW Skyview Ave. Featuring cakes made with real eggs, butter and cream cheese, the new location held its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 15. Edwards says the welcome he’s received has been overwhelming.

“I can’t even begin to describe how amazing it’s been to talk to people coming in through the door,” he says. “I’d say nine out of 10 people I’ve talked to already know what they want and are so excited we’re there. It’s been wonderful.”

As a native of the metro area, Edwards says he’s proud of the local feel of his locations.

“I think it is authentic, that feeling of being local,” he says. “We live in this community, we’re from here. And this brand is solid, especially for this community. I’m very proud of what we do; I’m proud of the product that we sell. For me, that’s been the most enjoyable part—having something you can be really proud of.”

A favorite treat for birthday parties, Mother’s Day, a family get-together, or really any occasion in between, the stores offer cakes for every taste—from bite-sized “bundtinis” to miniature “bundtlets” to full-size bundt cakes that serve up to 20 people. Chocolate chocolate chip is the best-selling flavor, Edwards says, followed by red velvet and white chocolate raspberry.

The momentum continues to grow, as Edwards plans to open an additional location in Lee’s Summit later this year. He’s also launched a Nothing Bundt Cakes food truck that sells prepackaged cakes on-site at events, weddings, birthday parties, and other special occasions.

Edwards says his fascination with the brand started more than six years ago when he first tasted the product at a family reunion, “We were blown away by it!” and he’s excited to introduce even more people to a dessert that, as the company phrases it, “not only reminds you of home, but also opens you to a new world.”

“The quality of our product,” he says, “and the quality of our service is what sets us apart.”
