Winnetonka High School Collects Accolades at the Blue Star Awards

The team from Starlight Theatre came to Winnetonka High School to announce that the Winnetonka Theatre Department won 10 nominations in this year’s Blue Star Awards competition. This is the most nominations that any school received this year in the 10th anniversary of the awards program, placing Winnetonka among recipients with the most nominations ever for a single high school. Award presentations were made Thursday, May 24, at Starlight Theatre in an awards ceremony sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield and Starlight Theatre. The presentation was made to Director Sheri Coffman, Ed.D., and her students for the production of their fall musical, “Seussical!” The high school has produced musicals in the past several years that have attracted multiple nominations for the Blue Star Awards, including “CATS” and “Oklahoma.” Starlight Theatre will be handing out 120 nominations to metro area high schools for musicals performed during the 2011-2012 school year. High school students were nominated for awards including outstanding actor/actress in a lead role, featured role or ensemble role, and schools received nominations including outstanding overall production, outstanding scenic design, outstanding costume design, outstanding lighting design and outstanding hair and makeup design.
